The Assistant tab in the right panel is a chat with tools: it can search your documents, read their details, list folders and tags, and build paperclips — inside your project, on your machine.
What to ask
- “Which insurance documents do we have for Nora?”
- “Find the lease papers and clip them together as ‘Apartment’.”
- “Show me the birth certificate translation.”
- “What did I file last week?”
What it can — and can’t — do
It reads your archive and organizes views of it: searching, listing, creating clips, adding files to clips, navigating. It does not move, rename, edit, or delete files — filing changes stay in the propose-and-review flow where you confirm each move.
File links that navigate
When the assistant mentions a document, it’s a link. Clicking it does what you would do by hand: opens the right folder in the tree, selects the file in the list, and shows the preview — so “show me” actually shows you.
Which model?
The assistant works with every provider dossier supports. Hosted models (Claude, OpenAI, OpenRouter) are the most reliable with tools; local Ollama models work too — dossier compensates for the ways smaller models fumble tool calls — just expect the occasional retry. Conversations are saved per project, so context survives a restart.
