Power features

How do I search across everything?

Full-text search covers filenames, AI summaries, your notes, and the complete extracted text.

dossier’s search isn’t a filename filter — it indexes the full extracted text of every document, plus the AI summary, your notes, and the filename itself.

Searching

Type into the search field above the file list. Matches show a highlighted snippet of where in the document the phrase was found — useful when the filename alone wouldn’t tell you.

Narrowing down

Open the extended search filters to combine:

  • Type — PDF, image, text, other
  • Status — inbox, filed, needs review, …
  • Tags — any tag from your convention
  • Language — appears automatically when a project contains more than one
  • Only OCR’d files — documents that got their text via OCR

Filters you leave empty don’t limit anything.

Any search can be saved as a smart clip — it appears in the Clips sidebar, keeps itself up to date, and shows a live badge count. “All insurance letters from 2025” becomes a one-click view. See paperclips.

Indexed an archive before OCR-ing it, or migrating from an older version? Settings → Re-index All Documents rebuilds the full-text index in one go.
